Sunday Post #1

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

On the blog this week

I also announced that I am going to be participating in Mental Health Awareness Month next month!

This week's book haul

Seven Second Delay by Tom Easton: I won this through Goodreads and I've already read and reviewed this one!

It's fantasy galore this week!

Tribute by Ellen Renner: I'm very annoyed because I ordered a used copy from World of Books through Amazon and they gave me a proof copy which clearly says 'NOT FOR RESALE', so I contacted them and hopefully they'll agree to send me a finished copy or something.

Shadowplay by Laura Lam: I read Pantomime two weeks ago and it was awesome, so clearly I'm very much looking forward to Shadowplay, its sequel!

The City's Son by Tom Pollock: The #WeNeedDiverseBooks campaign made me really want to pick this up! I'd already wanted to read it before since it's apparently reminiscent of Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere and that's one of my all-time favourites.

Tides by Betsy Cornwell: Uh, the paperback isn't supposed to be out until 1 June in the UK but I discovered The Book Depository sometimes lets you purchase books before their release date! I am very excited about this. Queer ladies and selkies!

The Elites by Natasha Ngan: I squeed about the cover in my April wrap-up post. I love it! It's so striking and pretty. That's two Asian girls on fantasy book covers that I've got in my book haul this week. (:

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor: Ah yes. The extremely hyped Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy! I've already started reading it and I'm really enjoying it so far. I don't think it's going to disappoint.

That's it from me this week! How has your week been? What books did you get this week?

Feel free to link me to your hauls and/or recaps!

  1. You got Shadowplay!! Yaaay~ And Tides! I've heard some really great things about that book (and the cover!! *drools*) Happy reading~

  2. The cover of Tides is so beautiful! It shimmers on the actual book, it's absolutely mesmerising. So glad I bought it. Thanks! I can't wait to sink my teeth into these books. (:

  3. Woah. I can't believe that someone is selling ARC copies through Amazon! That is insane. I hope they give you your money back or are able to send you a legit copy. Not only because the story could have been altered but just for the principle that they aren't supposed to sell those in the first place. Wow.

  4. Yeah, I know! It clearly says not for sale on those things! I'm really annoyed with them. ):

  5. I loved Pollock's book. Thanks for joining the Sunday Post

  6. Glad to hear it! I'm very much looking forward to reading it, since I've been trying to recapture with other books the feeling that Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere gave me, but I've never succeeded. Maybe this will come close!

  7. Tides looks great! And I'd love to try something by Laini Taylor...everyone raves about how unique her world is, so I'm sold! x) Thanks for stopping by mine.

  8. Congratz on your first Sunday Post post! :D I love your meme button, so cute! Seven Second Delay sounds fascinating, I'm off to check out that one on Goodreads!I haven't read Pantomime but I keep seeing Shadowplay everywhere and I'm REALLY curious, so I want to check those out too! Thanks for stopping by MSC and congatz on your new blog - it's fun isn't it? :D

  9. Thanks. (: I love book blogging! I'm just sad that I didn't start earlier.

Seven Second Delay was just a pretty fun action-packed thriller, I'm glad I won it through First Reads since it's not the type of book I'd ever pick up otherwise.

Pantomime was amazing. It's one of my favourites since I started book blogging, but I hear Shadowplay is even better, so I am just dying to read it! I hope you like Pantomime when you do check it out!

  10. Yeah, I just kept seeing all these great reviews of the last book in the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy so I couldn't resist picking the first book up. I'm really in the mood for reading fantasy lately. I'm enjoying it so far; the writing is so beautiful and evocative!

I can't wait to read Tides; I think I'll probably start that after I finish Daughter of Smoke and Bone.

  11. Interesting books you got for the week! I have Daughters of Smoke and Bone but have yet to read it yet.

  12. I LOVE that cover for The Elites! Funny that I was thinking that and then went and read what you said about it and you commented on the cover too. Guess I'm not alone! Thanks for stopping by my Sunday Post this week!

(Oh, and I love your little octopuses too!)

  13. Um, your jellyfish - yeah, I guess the title of the blog should have given that away. LOL!

  14. Yeah. I'd never heard of the book until I saw it in a bookstore and the cover immediately caught my eye. That's why representation matters. If it hadn't had an Asian girl on the cover I doubt I would have looked at that book twice, since the premise and the writing don't seem to be anything special. I hope it turns out to be a good book!

    (Thanks! Aren't they adorable?)
